As elsewhere, countries in Asia have experienced increasingly polarized domestic politics alongside growing geopolitical tensions. How do Asian states—authoritarian and democratic, large and small—respond to these two power plays simultaneously? Do these dynamics intensify security flashpoints in the region, or can they help mitigate them?

Join us for answers to these questions and more as part of our pre-APSA panel discussion chaired by Lynn T. White III, Professor of Politics and International Affairs, Emeritus at Princeton University. Our speakers include Min Ye, Professor of International Relations, Boston University, Chao Xie, Associate Professor at the Institute of International Studies, Fudan University, S. Philip Hsu, Professor of Political Science, National Taiwan University, Ja Ian Chong, Associate Professor of Poitical Science at the National University of Singapore.

The panel discussion will be followed by a reception from 3:30 to 5 PM.
